A rare scene was witnessed at HA. Filladhoo as newly elected mayors, deputy mayors, and councilors for the fifth session of local councils took their oath of office on Sunday.
In a family affair, the President of the Filladhoo Council was sworn into office by his wife.
Mohamed Hamidh’s oath of office was administered by Aishath Fareeda, the Chief Magistrate of Filladhoo Magistrate Court, who is also his spouse. Fareedha was appointed Chief Magistrate in October last year.
Both Hamidh and Fareedha reportedly hold degrees in Shariah and Law.
In the recent election, the ruling People's National Congress (PNC) secured all seats in Filladhoo, winning the island’s three council seats as well as the three seats on the Women’s Development Committee (WDC). This marks the first time in the island’s history that a single political party has secured every available seat.
