A Male' City Council employee was injured after being struck by a garbage bag thrown from a balcony while he was collecting waste.
The incident occurred when a bag containing spoiled food and mixed household waste was dropped from the kitchen-side balcony of Male' Hiyaa Flat 2, landing on the street‑level dump area where council workers were carrying out their duties.
The garbage bag fell from above and hit the employee on the head. His head became swollen and he sustained multiple injuries.
The City Council described the act as “uncivilized and unacceptable”, noting that such behaviour endangers workers who are carrying out essential public services. The council urged the public to refrain from such irresponsible actions.
WAMCO is responsible for collecting household waste in Male', while the City Council handles the cleaning of public spaces. WAMCO regularly announces collection rules and timings for households.
Despite this, garbage bags and loose waste continue to appear in public areas.
Such incidents cause harm to many people.
