Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) has urged the public to avoid visiting the hospital unless absolutely necessary, citing a rapid increase in communicable diseases across Male'.
In a public advisory, the hospital asked people to take extra precautions as flu‑like illnesses, rashes, and mosquito‑borne diseases continue to rise. IGMH also issued a list of preventive measures for households and individuals.
The hospital advised the public to:
Avoid visiting the hospital unless essential
Wear a mask and seek medical care promptly if experiencing symptoms such as cold, fever, or rash
Limit the use of public transport
Maintain strict personal hygiene
Ensure children complete their national vaccination schedule
Cover the mouth and nose properly when coughing or sneezing
Avoid crowded places and wear masks when attending them
Seek medical attention immediately if any signs of illness appear
Check and eliminate mosquito‑breeding sites around homes and yards
IGMH noted that the ongoing rainy season has led to a spike in flu and dengue cases across the country.
Health authorities have also confirmed two malaria cases this week, a disease previously eradicated from the Maldives, prompting heightened public‑health vigilance.
