Prior to last year, the Thalassemia Center in Malé operated from an extremely worn-down building. During a visit to the center on March 23 last year, President Muizzu witnessed the poor conditions firsthand. Following the visit, he pledged to address the issue and ensure a more suitable environment for patients.
As part of this commitment, a modern Thalassemia Center was established at Orange Hiyaa in Hulhumalé Phase I with the support of the military. The facility was officially relocated and began operations on May 8 last year.
While the current administration has also announced plans to develop a specialized hospital dedicated to Thalassemia treatment, physical work on the project has yet to commence.
