The Football Association of Maldives (FAM) and Club Maldives have signed a historic agreement to elevate futsal, one of the country’s most popular sports, through an official national framework.
FAM President Ahmed Thoriq (Tom) signed the agreement on behalf of FAM at a special ceremony held at the Galolhu Official Stadium. Club Maldives President Moosa Rameez signed on behalf of the association.
Under the agreement, the Club Maldives Cup and the Eighteen Thirty Women’s Futsal Tournament will receive official endorsement from FAM.
In addition, Club Maldives has agreed to provide technical support to FAM for futsal tournaments conducted at the atoll, zone and regional levels.
Speaking at the ceremony, FAM President Thoriq said this year’s tournament will be included in FAM’s official calendar.
He added that FAM will introduce a national futsal league in the future, featuring the strongest teams selected from the various stages of the championship.
This major initiative will be carried out with the full participation and expertise of Club Maldives, which Thoriq described as an important step toward strengthening the futsal structure in the Maldives and creating more opportunities for players.
Club Maldives President Moosa Rameez said the association has always aimed to promote futsal in the Maldives and ensure young people benefit from the sport. He said all future activities of Club Maldives will be aligned with FAM guidelines.
Rameez thanked the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Fitness, HDC, RDC, sponsors and referees for their cooperation in successfully conducting tournaments.
With this agreement, the sporting community hopes the Maldivian futsal scene will enter a new era, raising the technical level of the sport nationwide.
