Burn victim in Feeali fire dies

The fire which broke out at the F. Feeali harbor on April 9, 2026: The Bangladeshi burn victim in the fire has passed away.

The burn victim in the massive fire that broke out at F. Feeali harbor in April has passed away.

The fire originated from a fuel boat docked at the harbor and was reported to authorities at approximately 09:15am on Thursday It was brought under control around 10:35am after spreading to three additional vessels, as well as the island’s ice plant and fuel shed.

One individual—a 40-year-old Bangladeshi national, Delova, employed on the fuel boat—sustained serious burn injuries in the incident. He was initially treated at Feeali Health Centre before being transferred to IGMH in capital Male’ City for further treatment due to the severity of his condition.

IGMH has confirmed to Sun that Delova passed away on Monday, May 4th, as he received treatment on ventilator support at the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit.

“The burn victim has died. He died on Monday,” IGMH’s Spokesperson said.

Feeali Health Centre, which first treated Delova, said 60 percent of his body was burned in the fire.

A local resident told Sun that the fire reportedly began when the fuel boat activated its pump while docking to offload fuel.

Feeali Council president Mossa Ahmed has previously told Sun the fire – which took around three hours to bring under control – caused an estimated MVR 20 million in damages, or possibly even more.

The fire completely burned down the fuel boat, on which it originated, alongside two other fishing vessels. Furthermore, the island’s ice plant, located in the harbor area, was completely destroyed in the fire.
