Former Addu City MP Mohamed Sinan has been selected as the candidate to contest the by‑election for the North Hithadhoo constituency on a People’s National Congress (PNC) ticket.

Sinan contested the party’s primary against Hithadhoo Moolekede Councilor Ahmed Saeed (Soda). Sinan secured the ticket with a total of 226 votes, while Saeed received 187 votes.

A total of 727 people were eligible to vote in the PNC primary in the Hithadhoo North constituency. Sinan received 59 votes and Saeed 37 votes from the Moolekede ballot box. Sinan won 167 votes while Saeed received 150 votes from the main ballot box.

The Hithadhoo North seat became vacant after the Supreme Court ruled that Sinan, who previously held the seat, had lost it due to non‑payment of a loan of MVR 3.8 million taken from Maldives Islamic Bank.
