The Higher Education Ministry has warned students to be cautious of advertisements promoting an unregistered medical college called SAS Medical College.

In an announcement, the ministry said it had observed that a medical college was being advertised to recruit students under this name. However, the centre is not registered with the ministry under the Higher Education and Training Act.

Therefore, operating an educational institution in the Maldives under the title of a college without officially holding college status is an offence under Article 62 of the Higher Education and Training Act. The ministry further noted that Section 64 of the Act makes it an offence for any person to advertise themselves as a university, college, or institute unless registered as a higher education provider under the law.

“The said ‘SAS Medical College’ is advertising in a misleading manner to the public. Therefore, this is hereby brought to the attention of students and the public,” the ministry said.
