Dr Salma Rasheed, dismissed earlier this week, to be brought back to Male' for work at the Foreign Ministry

Permanent Representative of Maldives with the United Nations, Dr Salma Rasheed delivering the national statement in Geneva, March 25, 2026.

Permanent Representative to Geneva Dr Salma Rasheed, sister of PNC MP Asma Rasheed, is being brought back to Male' to work at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs after her dismissal was reversed.

Dr Salma and Asma’s son, Ambassador to the UAE Mohamed Hussain Shareef, were both dismissed on Monday.

However, a source close to Dr Salma told Sun that she was informed on Wednesday that the termination notice issued to her has been cancelled. She remains in Geneva and will now be brought to Male' for ministry duties.

The dismissals came after an audio clip circulated on social media in which two individuals, including MP Asma, were heard criticising the government.

The development follows the PNC’s major defeat in Saturday’s local council elections.
