A total of 36,333 tourists arrived in the Maldives in the first week of this month, marking a 26 percent decline compared to the same period last year, according to statistics from the Ministry of Tourism.
The Ministry’s data shows 36,333 arrivals from the 1st to the 7th of this month, compared to 49,074 arrivals during the same period last year.
Tourist arrivals from the start of the year to the 7th of this month reached 684,908, slightly lower than the 689,634 arrivals recorded during the same period last year, a difference of 4,726 tourists. Daily arrivals averaged 7,061 visitors before.
Accommodation statistics show that resorts hosted 462,361 tourists, guesthouses 173,434, hotels 18,865, tourist vessels 14,568, and other facilities 873.
China remained the top source market with 100,185 arrivals, followed by Russia (84,739) and the United Kingdom (65,105). Italy, Germany, India, France, the United States, Switzerland and Austria completed the top ten.
The Ministry noted that arrivals from the Middle East have declined due to the ongoing conflict in the region.
