Ahmed Siyam Mohamed, the president of the Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) and the parliamentary representative Meedhoo constituency, on Tuesday called on all relevant stakeholders to recognize the invaluable contributions of healthcare professionals, ensure their safety in the workplace, and provide fair and adequate pay for their dedicated service.
In a message on the occasion of World Health Day, Siyam underscored the need to guarantee equitable access to high-quality healthcare services for all Maldivians, without discrimination.
He placed particular emphasis on prioritizing the health and well-being of vulnerable groups, including the elderly, parents, and infants, and called for the transformation of the national healthcare system into a comprehensive, inclusive, and equitable framework that serves the entire population.
Siyam further highlighted the importance of ensuring universal access to clean drinking water, effective sanitation systems, safe food, and adequate healthcare services, noting that these are fundamental to public health and well-being.
"As healthcare professionals represent a sublime example of service to humanity, I urge all relevant institutions to appreciate their value, guarantee their safety within the working environment, and provide remuneration and benefits that are commensurate with their hard work," Siyam stated.
He concluded by expressing hope for expanded opportunities for professional development among Maldivian healthcare workers to secure a prosperous future, while also envisioning a Maldives in which all citizens can live in safety and peace.
