Young surfer Sayyid Salahudin wins BML sports scholarship

Bank of Maldives (BML) has announced Sayyid Salahudin as the recipient of its sports scholarship this year.

According to BML, the young surfer will undergo training in China, the Philippines and Indonesia, and will also participate in a competition in Australia.

The scholarship will further provide the necessary equipment and support required for both training and competition.

BML stated that its sports scholarship program aims to support athletes achieve their sporting potential through targeted programs.

BML offers the scholarship in partnership with Maldives Olympic Committee (MOC) to oversee the selection of athletes.

This fully funded scholarship offers athletes the chance to train at globally renowned high-performance training centers.

Since its inception, the BML sports scholarship program has supported eight athletes in their professional development.

The bank states that it continues to play a key role in supporting national sports, partnering with various sports associations including football, swimming, tennis, basketball, and surfing, underscoring its sustained commitment to developing sports nationwide.

BML received the Special Recognition Award for its contribution to the development and promotion of sports in the Maldives by Ministry of Sports, Fitness and Recreation at the 2025 Maldives Sports Awards.
