A devastating fire completely destroyed the Iris house in R. Alifushi on Friday, authorities confirmed. The blaze spread rapidly through the residence, but no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire has not yet been identified.

Islanders, along with local institutions, worked together to bring the fire under control. Despite their efforts, the house and all belongings inside were burned beyond repair, leaving the structure uninhabitable.

The intense heat also caused damage to the wall of the neighbouring Dhoalhabu house, though responders managed to prevent the flames from spreading further.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has begun assisting the affected family. Working with the Alifushi Council, the authority is providing temporary shelter, food, clothing and other essential items as part of its standard emergency response. NDMA emphasised that safeguarding lives and ensuring basic needs remain its top priority in such incidents.

Residents of the Iris house have been safely evacuated, and the council and relevant agencies are now conducting a full damage assessment.
