A new Skate Park Arena has opened in Male' City’s Usfasgandu area, inaugurated on Thursday by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
According to the President’s Office, the President and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed were welcomed at the ceremony by the Minister of Sports, Fitness and Recreation, Abdulla Rafiu. Following the inauguration, skaters from three age groups showcased their skills, after which the President and First Lady toured the arena and joined participants for a group photograph.
The new arena features a speed skating track and a skateboard park, developed under the CSR program of Rasheed Construction and Carpentry (RCC). The government says the project is part of broader efforts to expand recreational facilities and promote youth engagement and community well‑being.

Before the facility opened, many children practiced skating in a small section of the area. The government has also announced plans to develop a full skate arena in Male', while Hulhumale' already hosts skating zones at Red Bull Park and Central Park.
Skating continues to grow in popularity among children, with many training in groups under individual coaches across the Male' area.
