Fire ignited on rubber materials: MNDF

Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has said that the fire ignited on some rubber materials stored inside the Parkway 3 warehouse located in H. Sakeena Manzil today.

The fire took place in the 2nd floor of H. Sakeena Manzil around 2:40 this afternoon. The building was evacuated promptly after the fire alarm started to sound. The 9 story building houses a number of offices including Umar Naseer’s whale submarine office and an office of MEGA Maldives Airlines. The firemen climbed onto the second floor and entered the area where the fire originated by breaking the glass windows from the main road, climbing into the interior and hosing the area with water.

Firemen were only able to enter the building and extinguish the fire after about one hour’s continuous effort. MNDF has stated that nobody was hurt during the incident.

MNDF Media Officer Abdulla Ali said today that the fire originated from a rubber like material that was stored inside the building and that they have not yet identified the objects. He said that they are currently assessing the damage caused to the building and the goods that were stored inside the warehouse.
