Will be able to accomplish 10,000 members by tomorrow: Abbas

President Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik’s Gaumee Ithihad Party (GIP) has said that they are quite certain that they will be able to accomplish a membership count of 10,000 members by tomorrow.

In an interview to Sun today, the party’s Spokesperson Abbas Adil Riza said that they have gained much support during the campaign rounds in Male’, Vilimale’ and Hulhumale’ today and that President Waheed is seeing enormous support during these efforts to increase the party membership to 10,000.

He said that the newly completed membership forms will be submitted to the Elections Commission tomorrow.

“Especially for the efforts that were initiated today, as President Waheed stepped out, we’ve seen a lot support. We are quite certain that we’ll reach 10,000 members by tomorrow,” Abbas said.

He said that the President visited a number public areas and met with the people of Male' today as part of the campaign to increase the party membership and that a number of teams were also active in different areas of the city.

Abbas said that he will only be able to reveal the party’s total number of members after they receive the forms coming in from the atolls and that the forms will be brought in sometime midnight tonight. The party also carried out campaigns to increase their party membership in Addu City, Fuahmulak, Haa Alif and Haa Dhaalu atolls today.

Speaking at a GIP meeting before the initiative to increase the party membership was officially launched, the President said that he has made no effort to increase his party up until then and that he had worked instead for the best interest of the country. He said that he could have increased the party membership if had made the effort.
