Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA): Amendment seeks to introduce prison term and harsher fines for nonpayment of tax.
The Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) has published the names of 25 individuals and companies whose income tax arrears exceeded MVR 100,000 in 2024.
MIRA said the disclosures were made in line with the anonymity rule, noting that all parties were informed beforehand of the penalties applicable under the law and the actions that would follow. They were also notified via SMS.
The authority said it will continue to take measures under its enforcement policy to recover unpaid taxes and other outstanding amounts without discrimination.
MIRA urged those who have not filed their income tax returns to do so promptly, and advised taxpayers with pending dues to settle their payments immediately or enter into a tax payment agreement with the authority.
