Three more arrested over social media hack and MVR 279K theft

Three additional suspects have been arrested in connection with a case involving the hacking of a man’s social media accounts and the theft of over MVR 279,600 from his company’s bank account.

Police said Monday that a total of 10 individuals have now been arrested under court orders related to the case.

The latest arrests include:

  • Munaz Jaufar (24) – S. Hulhudhoo  

  • Mohammed Naaish Nabeel (24) – G.Dh. Gadhdhoo  

  • Hassan Viaam (19) – S. Hithadhoo  

Munaz has been remanded for 15 days, Naaish for seven days, and Viaam for 10 days.

Meanwhile, Mohamed Ali (42), who was previously arrested, was remanded for 30 days following a second court appearance.

The complaint alleges that the victim’s social media accounts were compromised, leading to unauthorized withdrawals from his company’s bank account.

The operation began last Tuesday and involved the Police Gang Crime Department, Thinadhoo City Police, and Hithadhoo Police. The Police Anti-Scam Centre is currently investigating the case.
