BML partners with Olympic Committee to offer sports scholarship for third year

The Bank of Maldives (BML) has signed an agreement with the Maldives Olympic Committee (MOC) to continue its sports scholarship program for a third consecutive year.

BML said the initiative aims to support Maldivian athletes in developing their skills and reaching higher levels of performance. Under the agreement, the MOC will oversee the selection of athletes, while nominations will be open to all MOC member associations. The bank will fund all expenses under the program.

Athletes chosen for the scholarship will have the opportunity to train at high‑performance training centres.

BML CEO and Managing Director Mohamed Shareef described the scholarship as a reflection of the bank’s commitment to nurturing local sporting talent. He expressed hope that the partnership with the MOC would help advance the country’s most promising athletes.

“This investment in Maldivian athletes opens doors to strengthen the future of Maldivian sports and achieve international success,” Shareef said.

MOC President Mohamed Abdul Sattar said the committee was pleased to collaborate with BML for a third year, noting that the joint effort would help athletes enhance their skills and access new opportunities.

Since its launch, the BML Sports Scholarship has supported the training programmes of eight athletes. The bank also supports sports development through partnerships with swimming, tennis, basketball and sailing associations.
