The People’s National Congress (PNC) has contributed MVR 300,000 to the Public Service Media (PSM)’s special telethon aimed at assisting communities in Sri Lanka affected by Cyclone Ditwah.  

The cheque was handed over by senior officials of the party’s Parliamentary Group along with other members.  

Speaking at the handover, Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdullah highlighted the close ties between Maldives and Sri Lanka, urging the public to extend their generosity by donating to the telethon.  

Following him, PNC Parliamentary Group Leader Falaah Ibrahim noted that Maldives was the first country to respond to the disaster. He commended President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s swift decision to provide aid to Sri Lanka.  

The telethon, which began at 09:00 on Sunday at the PSM studio, will continue until 13:00 hours.

 Participation

  • Sun Siyam Media is also taking part, with coverage broadcast on Sun Online and SSTV.  

  • Contributions remain open to associations, government offices, and private companies.  

PSM has signed an agreement with Crow Maldives, an independent audit firm, to oversee the funds raised.

It is worth noting that the PNC is currently the largest political party in Maldives, with 144,808 members. The party has been allocated MVR 13,316,689.57 from the state budget this year.
