Charges raised against Hoara Ibbe for sexual misconduct

State has raised charges against Ibrahim Rasheed (Hoara Ibbe, age 45) accusing him of sexual misconduct with a minor. Ibrahim Rasheed previously held the post of Under Secretary at the President’s Office during former President Mohamed Nasheed’s administration.

Media Official for the Criminal Court Ahmed Mohamed Manik said that Hoara Ibbe’s case was accepted by the court on the 19th of this month and that the first hearing for the case has been scheduled for 6th of next month.

Police arrested Ibrahim Rasheed on the 6th of December from a house named G. Maavasge located in the alleyway in front Olympus. They said that he was found naked with a 17 year old girl at the time of arrest. The girl was also arrested along with Ibrahim Rasheed.

Criminal Court allowed Ibrahim Rasheed to be changed to house arrest on the 5th of last month.

Ibrahim Rasheed has been charged under article 3 (c) of the act on extraordinary standards governing the penalties for those who abuse children.

Article 3 (a) of the act states that it is a crime to touch a minor with sexual intentions.

Article 3 (b) of the act states that if a man is convicted of such a crime, the sentence shall be imprisonment for a period of 10 to 14 years.
