Chief Justice Abdul Ghanee Mohamed, accompanied by Justices Ali Rasheed Hussain, Abdullah Hameed, and Mohamed Saleem, attended the International Conference on Justice held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on Sunday and Monday.
The conference brought together representatives from 50 countries to discuss key issues related to judicial systems and reforms.
During the visit, the Supreme Court of Maldives signed a five‑year memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Saudi Ministry of Justice to strengthen cooperation in judicial administration, legal norms, and institutional capacity. The agreement was signed by Chief Justice Abdul Ghanee Mohamed on behalf of the Maldives and by Saudi Minister of Justice Walid bin Muhammad al‑Sam’ani.
This marks the first MoU between the Maldivian judiciary and an Arab Islamic country. Under the agreement, the two sides will collaborate in six areas, including:
Enhancing judicial systems and administrative procedures
Improving technical capacity and skills of judges and staff
Strengthening judicial work and efficiency
Exchanging information on judicial practices
Sharing institutional experiences
Organizing scientific conferences and training programs
The partnership is expected to deepen ties between the Maldives and Saudi Arabia while contributing to the professional development of Maldivian judicial staff and the modernization of the judiciary.
