President Dr Mohamed Muizzu inaugurated the first Urban Primary Healthcare Centre in Male' City on Thursday, marking a new milestone in expanding accessible health services in the capital.
The clinic is located in the Coral Boulevard building near Rasfannu Beach, a structure originally developed during former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom’s administration. The building had remained vacant for over six years before being repurposed into a general practice clinic.

The facility was developed by the Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO) and handed over to the Male' City Group of Hospitals (MCGH). WAMCO Managing Director Mujuthaba Jaleel formally transferred the building to MCGH Group CEO Ibrahim Abdul Razzaq Haleem during the opening ceremony.
Speaking at the event, Haleem said the center will offer general practitioner (GP) services to a wide range of patients, with trained professionals available to assess health conditions and refer clients to specialists when needed.
He added that the clinic will also feature a child health clinic in collaboration with the Health Protection Agency (HPA), and will host national-level programs focused on public health awareness, non-communicable diseases, mental health, and tobacco cessation.
The facility includes a GP clinic, child health clinic, treatment room, fracture room, wellness clinic, counseling room, and X-ray room.
The government plans to open six general practice clinics across Male' City. Following this launch, three additional clinics will be established in Male' and one in Hulhumale'.
