Former president Mohamed Nasheed has raised concerns over wasteful electricity at Velena International Airport (VIA), citing that the airport’s temperature is currently set to an excessively cold level.

Nasheed, via post on X on Sunday, said VIA’s temperature is currently set at 15 degrees Celsius, which is excessively cold and wasteful. He added that the more reasonable range is between 20 to 25 degrees Celsius.

Some people who commented on Nasheed’s post agreed with his opinion, adding that the excessively cold temperature would result in increased expenses on electricity.

Notably, the new terminal at VIA was inaugurated on July 26th, in conjunction with Maldives’ 60th anniversary. The new terminal with state-of-the-art facilities has a capacity of servicing up to 7.5 million passengers per year.
