The Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure has extended the deadline for beneficiaries of the Binnveriyaa housing scheme to make appointments for collecting their land registry and signing updated agreements.
The registries for plots allocated in Gulhifalhu began issuance on July 12. In an announcement on Tuesday, the ministry said recipients who have not yet completed the process now have until next Thursday to request appointments via the Hiyaa Portal.
Applicants must submit the following documents when requesting an appointment:
Copy of the NID card of a witness
Copy of the previously signed housing agreement
Registration of the land previously issued
If someone other than the recipient is signing the agreement and collecting the registry, a copy of the power of attorney and the attorney’s NID card—either court-registered or notarised—must also be submitted.
The ministry stated that appointment details will be shared via SMS and the shelter portal.
As of August 28, 1,260 recipients have received land registration under the scheme. The Binnveriyaa project began in July last year, with dredging work awarded to Dutch company Boskalis for USD 120 million (MVR 2 billion).
While the previous government conducted a lottery to allocate plots, the current administration has revised the land use plan twice. Registrations are now being issued following a re-draw held on May 30. The government also amended the original agreements, citing legal issues in the previous version—prompting the need for new appointments and documentation.
