Boat carrying waste from resort catches on fire

A boat carrying waste from Constance Halaveli Resort to K. Thilafushi has caught on fire.

Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) said the incident was reported to the authority at 9 am, this Saturday morning. And that the fire originated from the engine room of the boat "Reyva".

The fire burned down the engine room and spread to areas near the engine room, resulting in varying degrees of damage.

No one was harmed in the incident. And the fire was put out using the fire extinguisher kept on the boat by the crew.

MNDF provided assistance in dealing with flooding in the engine room which resulted from fire damage.
