Person in military training dies unexpectedly

A person who was taking part in the 58th basic military training program currently held in Addu City has died unexpectedly today.

Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Media Officer Abdulla Ali revealed the man who died as Ismail Habeeb, Seenu Feydhoo Dhunnikage, age 24. He said that the incident occurred around 11 this morning while Ismail Habeeb was taking part in swimming trainings.

MNDF said that Ismail Habeeb had finished his 200 meter swimming test when he suddenly drowned as he touched the finishing point. They said that the instructors at the scene had jumped in and taken him out of the water within 5 seconds and that he was taken to the Hithadhoo Regional Hospital immediately.

Abdulla Ali said that the Hospital had confirmed Habeeb’s death, but said that he can only comment on the cause of death after reviewing the doctors reports.
