Nasheed's appeal rejected

High Court has said that they have rejected the appeal for the second order issued by the Hulhumale’ Court, which ordered the police to produce former president Nasheed to court with regard to the hearing of the illegal detention of Criminal Court Judge Abdulla Mohamed.

An official from the High Court said that the order was appealed in the court today, but was not accepted. The official did not reveal the reasons for its rejection.

The first order issued to arrest and produce Nasheed to court, which was given on the 13th of this month, was also appealed in High Court by Nasheed’s lawyers. Nasheed’s case was scheduled for the evening of the 13th Wednesday last week, but the hearing was later cancelled because the summoning chit could not be handed over to Nasheed as he chose remain inside the Indian High Commission in Male’.

Hulhumale’ Court order orders that the police produce Nasheed to the hearing scheduled to be held at 16:00 this evening. The Maldivian Foreign Ministry has asked the Indian High Commission to facilitate in taking Nasheed to court, to which the Indian High Commission has not yet made a statement.

Nasheed’s Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has said that Nasheed will not attend today's hearing.
