President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has officially designated Rannfaru lagoon area as part of Maalhos, located in the North Ari Atoll.
This decision, formalized through Presidential Decree No. 20/2025, aligns with a previous promise made by the President.
The resolution integrates the Rannfaru lagoon into the list of inhabited islands in the Maldives and specifies the correct Dhivehi and English spellings. This update also amends the overall list of inhabited islands in the Maldives.
This administrative change fulfills a pledge made by the President during his December 2024 visit to various islands in the Ari Atoll. The commitment was made during a meeting with the Maalhos Council and the Women’s Development Committee.
The proposal to declare the Rannfaru lagoon as part of Maalhos was driven by the aim of improving the quality of life for the island's residents and resolving administrative issues. The lagoon is a large, shallow area situated immediately north of Maalhos.
