He has also stated that Nasheed’s stay in the Indian High Commission in Male’ cannot be indefinite and that they have allowed Nasheed to meet with his family and friends as way of extending the courtesies given to former heads of states.

"We have explained that we would not like to get involved. We are only extending the normal courtesies given to former heads of states, like allowing visits by his family members or party colleagues, but this too obviously cannot go on indefinitely," said the External Affairs Minister.

Khurshid said that he has spoke to Maldivian Foreign Minister Abdul Samad Abdulla and clarified his concern and the worries about the situation.

Khurshid also made it clear that India will not take part in Maldivian internal affairs.

The External Minister said that they are currently working alongside the Maldivian government to resolve the situation but said that the situation does not involve just the two governments, but Nasheed as well.

“Both of us are trying our best to find resolution. But it is not just two of us, there is also Nasheed," Khurshid told reporters.
