Indian High Commissioner summoned to Foreign Ministry

Indian High Commissioner to the Maldives D M Mulay has been summoned to the Foreign Ministry today.

Foreign Ministry said that Mulay was summoned to give him a message to be delivered from the Maldivian government to the Indian government.

A note announced by the Foreign Ministry states that Mulay was summoned to the ministry at 13:15 hrs today to give him a message to be delivered from the Maldivian government to the Indian government, regarding the Indian government’s actions in response to former President Mohamed Nasheed being inside the Indian High Commission since 13 February.

Mulay refused to talk to reporters that approached him as he came out of the Foreign Ministry.

In diplomacy, for a government to summon an ambassador representing a foreign country is perceived as an act of strict action on the part of the government.
