Three arrested following attempted attacks on police

Three people have been arrested for attempting to attack the police at Republic Square this afternoon.

The police said that the three people were arrested for “attempting to attack and assault the police officers” who were trying to control the crowd in the area.

A group of MDP supporters gathered at Republic Square after Friday Prayers today and attempted to attack DRP activist Mohamed Shareef (Eagles Shareef). The police intervened and protected Shareef, and removed him from the crowd.

The police also said that one person was arrested for refusing to obey police orders during police efforts to disperse the crowd after they started creating unrest at Republic Square.
