Nishan and Fazloon’s trial suspended pending review of charges

Criminal Court has decided to suspend the trial of Sheikh Adam Nishan and Sheikh Fazloon Mohamed regarding the terrorism charges against them.

Both of them, along with multiple others, have been charged with terrorism and other charges over the mob attack on the event held at the national football stadium on June 21, 2022, to mark World Yoga Day.

Nishan and Fazloon have been charged with encouraging an act of terrorism.

A hearing in the case that has long remained stalled was held on Sunday.

Both Nishan and Fazloon have requested to review their charges in the cases. As such, the defense attorney requested to suspend the trial until the charges are reviewed during Sunday’s hearing.

As the state had no objection to this, the judge presiding over the case decided to suspend the trial pending the review of the charges.

A total of 18 people, including Nishan and Fazloon, have been charged in connection with the mob attack.
