Not informed if Nasheed has requested for protection: Khurshid

Indian External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid has said that he was not informed of whether former President Mohamed Nasheed had requested for the protection of the Indian High Commission.

In an interview to The Times of India, Khurshid said that Nasheed went to the High Commission to speak with the High Commissioner, and that he was not informed if Nasheed had requested for protection.

“My understanding and information is that there were some developments in the Maldives. He wanted to speak to the High Commissioner, he came to the High Commission, the High Commissioner was not available, he was not there. So he was told to wait for the High Commissioner,” Khurshid said.

When asked if India would provide protection to Nasheed, Khurshid said that Nasheed had sought a meeting with the High Commissioner, and that more will be known after discussions are held between Nasheed and the Indian High Commissioner.
