Sun has learned that the Maldivian man reported missing from Malaysia had been in the custody of Malaysian police.
Search efforts to locate Ahmed Usaid Ibrahim Afeef was launched on Sunday.
A relevant authority has confirmed to Sun that Usaid is currently in the custody of Malaysian police. At the moment, what he is accused of is unclear.
On Tuesday, Usaid’s father, Ibrahim Afeef, said the family contacted the police at 22:00pm on Sunday night after not hearing from Usaid since he left ‘Sunway Geo’ at 15:15 on the same day.
Afeef said the Maldivian High Commission in Malaysia was notified regarding the matter on the same day, adding that both the police and High Commission officials commenced search efforts to locate Usaid immediately after the missing persons’ report was filed.
Afeef, citing information gathered with the help of CCTV footage and statements from people, said Usaid visited the High Commission at approximately 16:00pm on Sunday, however, he had been unable to meet any officials as it was not a working day.
Afeef, noting his student card was discovered amid search efforts, said it has been confirmed that he is in good health. He expressed hope to locate his son, safe and sound.
Foreign Ministry, on Monday, confirmed to Sun that the Ministry had received a report of a missing Maldivian in Malaysia. As such, the Ministry said the Maldivian High Commission in Malaysia is liaising with the relevant authorities in the country to locate the Usaid.
