No corruption involved in the appointment of an employee by Habeeb: ACC

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has said that no corruption was involved in the appointment, by former Director General of ACC Ismail Habeeb Abdul Raheem, of a master trainer to the Elections Commission (EC) for the second round of the latest local council election.

A statement released by ACC today said that the master trainer was appointed after making the due announcement, and that the employee was appointed temporarily.

The statement said that even though the case filed against Habeeb stated that the employee was appointed without the permission of the commission, investigations had revealed that the permission of the Secretary General of EC was secured prior to the appointment of the employee to this post. ACC said moreover that the regulation on EC states that the Secretary General is the head of the EC Secretariat.

ACC’s statement said that the documents presented by the person appointed to the post of master trainer for the local council election showed that he met the requisites for the job.

“As investigations have revealed no proof or evidence to suggest that Ismail Habeeb Abdul Raheem used influence of his post to employ a particular person, the commission has concluded that this case does not involve any corruption,” said ACC’s statement.
