Presidential address scheduled for 4th of March

President Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik and parliament members have been notified that first session of the first term of parliament has been scheduled for the 4th of March 2013. The president will be making his presidential address during this session.

The president and MPs were notified by Parliament Speaker Abdualla Shahid. The President Dr. Mohamed Waheed will address the nation during this meeting, giving him the opportunity to state the current situation of the country and the measures that will be required in order to take country forward.

President Waheed will face this year’s presidential address after passing the one year mark for his presidency. Last year’s presidential address was made during one of the most volatile periods seen in the history of Maldivian parliament. In their attempts to disallow the president from giving his presidential address, some members belonging to Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) created chaos inside the parliament chambers last year.

Deputy Leader of the MDP Parliamentary Group Thoddoo MP Ali Waheed has warned that they will air their protests during this year’s first session of the first term of parliament.
