City council partners with local NGOs to clean up West Maafannu ahead of Ramadan

The Male’ City Council partnered with local non-profit Eagles Community on Saturday, for a clean up event focused on cleaning up the streets and other public areas in the West Maafannu district of Male’ City.

The ‘Eagles Community – Enmen Ekugai, Saafu Kuramaa 2025’ cleanup event kicked off at 08:00 am on Saturday.

In addition to the Eagles Community, the event was held with support from Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO), Maldives Police Service, and Manfaa – a new non-profit founded by Ali Rameez.

Sports Minister Abdulla Rafiu, Male’ City Mayor Adam Azim and West Maafannu MP Mohamed Mustafa Ibrahim joined other city councilors, and officials from the non-profits and other institutions in the cleanup event.

City council spokesperson Aminath Shathufa told Sun that the event was held to clean up the West Maafannu area for the upcoming holy month of Ramadan.

Participants are cleaning up the coastal areas and the roads in the district.

And according to Manfaa, participants are also collecting old copies of the Quran so they can be properly disposed of.

Male’ City Council is also conducting similar cleanup events in other districts of the capital.
