Maldives’ Jan arrivals top a record 200,000

Tourist arrivals to the Maldives has surpassed 200,000 at the end of January – marking a record number of visitors for the month.

According to statistics released by the Tourism Ministry, the Maldives welcomed 200,241 visitors as of Friday.

It marks a 11.1 percent growth in arrivals compared to the same period last year, as well as the highest number of visitors to the Maldives in a January – surpassing the previous record of 180,288 arrivals in January 2023.

The Maldives as been seeing 6,905 arrivals daily on average, with 69.7 percent of visitors staying in resorts, 25.5 percent in guesthouses, 2.5 percent in hotels, and 2.4 percent in liveaboards.

With the Chinese New Year holiday in full swing, China has overtaken Russia as the top source market for tourist arrivals to the Maldives with over 31,300 visitors.

The Maldives had welcomed a record two million tourist arrivals last year.

The island nation, which won the award for the WTA World's Leading Destination for the fifth consecutive year in 2024, expects to up tourist arrivals to 2.2 million this year.
