Crocodile to be kept under MNDF care

The crocodile found by Helengeli Resort in Male’ atoll this month has been decided to be handed to the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF).

Media official for MNDF Abdulla Ali said today that even though the 3 foot crocodile was previously planned to be donated to Kudakudhinge Bageecha (children’s park), it has now been decided to be kept in Vilimale’ under the care of MNDF.

He said that the crocodile was decided to be handed over to the MNDF because Kudakudhinge Bageecha does not have the room to house the animal.

“Earlier, we decided to keep the animal in Kudakudhinge Bageecha. But the place where the existing crocodile is kept is also rather small. When we considered putting another crocodile in there, we realised it was too small, so we decided to keep it under MNDF’s care,” Abdulla Ali said.

He said that the crocodile will now be kept in MNDF’s MRC centre located in Vilimale’.

A number of crocodiles have been spotted in different areas in the Maldives lately. A two feet crocodile was also spotted in Shaviyani atoll on the 4th of last month.
