The Democrats has announced it is scheduled to hold an election on February 15th to elect a president and a deputy president for the party.
The top leadership roles became vacant recently, after which the party’s National Assembly decided to hold the election to find replacements.
Interested members are required to submit their names from Monday until 12:00hrs on Thursday this week. Members who wish to contend in the election must submit a copy of their national identity card and a passport size picture via email.
The interim voters list of all eligible voters will be publicized, with complaint window for the list opened from 12:00hrs on Wednesday until 12:00hrs on Thursday. The final voters list will be publicized on Monday next week.
The party’s president and deputy president roles became vacant after its president Hassan Latheef and deputy president Mohamed Shifaz exited The Democrats recently to join Maldivian Democratic Party’s (MDP) ranks. Besides the two, the former Managing Director of State Trading Organization (STO), and a leading figure of The Democrats’ top ranks, Hussain Amr exited the party to join MDP as well.
The party handed its interim leadership responsibilities to former Madaveli MP Mohamed Firushan.
