Ministry of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage states a research is being conducted on the foundation of the historical site discovered underground K. Kaashidhoo Old Friday Mosque in 2020.
According to the Ministry, the initial works under the research were carried out from last week’s Sunday to Friday.
The scope of work under the two-week research includes sharing with the participants the technical approach to underground historical sites and the protocol with respect to such sites.
The research is being carried out by the National Centre for Cultural Heritage in collaboration with University of East of England, Dhivehi Bahuge Academy and Maritime Asia Heritage Survey.
In this regard, the Ministry of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage detailed staff from the National Centre for Cultural Heritage and Dhivehi Bahuge Academy in addition to a survey team from Maritime Asia Heritage Survey and two Maldivian students completing Masters in the Arts of Africa, Oceania and the Americas with Sansbury Centre at the University of East of England.
Kaashidhoo Old Friday Mosque is one of the oldest mosques on the island.
