44 people provided temporary housing following heavy rain return to homes

National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) states 44 individuals from seven households in Male’, who had been given temporary housing due to flooding from heavy rain over the weekend, have now returned to their homes and resumed their normal lives.

Male’ recorded 130.7 millimeters of rainfall from 08:00hrs on Friday, January 10th to 08:00hrs on Saturday, January 11th.6,385 tons of water were drained from Male’ roads as of 6:00hrs on Saturday morning.  

The 44 people were provided temporary housing after their daily activities such as cooking and eating were interrupted due to flood intrusion, water leakage from roofs and walls and sewage overflow from the toilets.

NDMA told Sun that on Sunday that the people were provided temporary housing for a period of one day. As such, the authority said they have returned to their homes as provided.

According to Maldives Metrological Office (Met Office), the weather is expected to worsen again starting from Monday onwards due to clouds formed near the Maldives.
