President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu states the projects required at all islands will be commenced this year regardless of the population of the island.
The President visited GDh. Rathafandhoo on Wednesday morning as part of his ongoing tour of Huvadhoo Atoll.
Speaking with the residents of the island, he said his administration’s policy is to provide equal services at all islands, irrespective of the size or the population of the island. In this trajectory, he underscored that Rathafandhoo was also in need of the projects that are required by islands with much larger population.
The President, noting many projects desperately needed for Rathafandhoo have been stalled due to various reasons, assured the residents of the government’s commitment to resume physical works on the projects within the year.
“Our highest priority under this year’s budget is to materialize as many pledges as possible and commence physical works. Projects which could not be commenced this year will be commenced next year. We will surely commence physical works on projects that are pending in the islands within these two years,” he elaborated.
Speaking further, he outlined the government’s development plans for Rathafandhoo.
President Muizzu, referencing the poor condition of Rathafandhoo Council building, revealed that Rathafandhoo is among some 50 islands where a contractor has been contracted to develop council buildings. He also assured the residents that the island’s harbor would be completed within this year, as desired by them.
He emphasized that the island's health center is a top priority for the government. In this regard, he assured that efforts would be made to enhance the health center by improving its resources and staffing.
He added that the water and sewerage project would resume, with necessary service extensions included. He also announced plans to create a community swimming area on the island. Additionally, he confirmed that Rathafandhoo would be included in the ongoing initiative to introduce ATM services across all Maldivian islands this year. Plans were also revealed to establish a fully equipped waste management center in Rathafandhoo within the year to meet the needs of its residents.
The President shared that progress is being made on the island's ice plant with support from Saudi funds, and the Minister of Finance will soon meet with representatives from the fund.
Following the meeting with the residents, President Muizzu visited Rathafandhoo Health Centre and Rathafandhoo Council and assessed the situation there.
