President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu on Sunday visited Kaafu atoll Gulhi, which is his first stop of his tour of the atolls for this year.
Upon arrival, President Muizzu received a warm welcome from the locals of the island.
During his visit, the president met with Gulhi Island Council and the Women’s Development Committee (WDC) and locals of the island to discuss key issues related to the island’s development.
At the meeting, councilors noted the shortage of space at the council premises and expressed gratitude to President Muizzu for the assurance he gave on building new office premises.
Councilors also highlighted land shortage issue, and requested for the speedy implementation of reclamation efforts. They also referred to the growing presence of tourism related businesses in the community and for the need to expand the harbor owing to the subsequent influx of marine traffic.
President Muizzu assured that the concerns raised by the councilors would be addressed.
The president is accompanied by cabinet ministers in his trip who provided updates on the ongoing development projects in Gulhi.
Since assumption of office in November 2023, President Muizzu has been touring the country, with few residential islands remaining in his tour.
