National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) states seven islands have reported flooding caused by heavy rain and swell waves as Maldives experiences a bad weather spell.
Islands that reported flooding following swell waves are R. Inguriadhoo and Sh. Narudhoo.
Heavy rain caused flooding in the remaining five islands.
They include F. Nilandhoo, where 80 percent of the island has been flooded as reported NDMA, citing Nilandhoo Council.
Some 10 homes in both Dh. Kudahuvadhoo and Dh. Meedhoo recorded damage after being impacted by floods.
F. Magoodhoo also reported flooding. Meanwhile four homes in ADh. Maamigli was impacted by floods of which two recorded severe damages.
NDMA said residents of one home in F. Feeali have been relocated after being impacted by floods.
MNDF is also active in the islands impacted by flooding.
Meanwhile, capital Male’ was also severely flooded following non-stop heavy rain. MNDF’s Fire and Rescue Service is undertaking efforts to drain the floods. In this regard, 16 pumps have been placed across six areas in Male’ City.
Hulhumale’ has also been severely flooded in the heavy rain.
Notably, an orange alert issued to central Maldivian atolls from Baa Atoll to Thaa Atoll, warning of torrential floods and thunderstorms with flooding is in effect until 23:00pm tonight.
