Mild earthquake strikes near Maldives

A mile earthquake struck 912 kilometers away from the Maldives on Monday.

As per Maldives Metrological Service (Met Office), the 4.7 magnitude earthquake struck Carlsberg Ridge at approximately 13:38pm this afternoon.

The authority stressed that there was no threat to the Maldives from the earthquake. 

The location of the earthquake is 912 kilometers away from the nation. 

Geographically, Maldives is not located at an area that is prone to earthquakes. However, the nation has been impacted by the earthquakes that have struck further away.

In this regard, Maldives was among the nations that recorded the highest damage from the tsunami which occurred as a result of an earthquake that struck Indonesia’s Sumatra in 2004. Last Thursday marked the 20th anniversary of the incident.
