Case against Head of Maleesha sent to PG Office

The case against Head of Maleesha Hajj and Umra Service Ismail Abdul Latheef, regarding the embezzlement of funds collected with the promise of organising the Hajj pilgrimage for a group of people, has been forwarded to the (PG) Prosecutor General’s Office.

Chief Inspector of Police Abdullah Shatheeh said while providing information to media that the case was forwarded to PG Office for prosecution on 28 January.

He said that Abdul Latheef had defrauded 126 people of over one million Rufiyaa and used this money for various purposes including organisation of Hajj for people in 2011, obtaining quota for organising Hajj for people via Sri Lanka in 2012, and personal use.

Shatheeh said that Maleesha Group is registered as a local investment solely under Abdul Latheef’s name.

He said that the case was filed to police by an individual on 12 September 2012, who said that he had lost hope of going for Hajj as he had not been able to contact Maleesha Group.

The government has said that it would facilitate Hajj pilgrimage this year for the victims of Maleesha’s deceit.
