The Maldives has welcomed a little over 100,000 tourists in 17 days, from December 1st to 17th according to statistics from the Ministry of Tourism.
As per statistics, total tourist arrivals from December 1st to 17th is at 103,560 which is a marginal 2.9 percent increment from the same period in 2023, during which arrivals had reached 100,652.
December coincides with the peak tourism season in the Maldives; resulting in a higher influx of tourist arrivals.
The daily arrival average for the same period is at 6,092 while the daily arrival average in annual terms is at 5,512.
So far, the Maldives has welcomed a total of 1,941,195 which is an 8.8 percent increment in annual terms compared to the corresponding period last year, during which arrivals had reached 1,784,499.
The Maldives government earlier set out a target of total two million arrivals before 2024 wound up; and hopes to hit this figure approximately by December 25th if the current daily arrival momentum holds.
The highest single-day arrival so far in December was recorded on December 15th, with an arrival of 8,934 with second highest recorded on December 1st, with 7,100 arrivals. The lowest single-day arrival was so far in the current month was recorded on December 9th, with 4,908 arrivals.
As of December 17th, two source markets have exceeded 200,000 arrivals in annual terms; China and Russia, with the former still maintaining top rank and the latter holding on to the second spot.

While the total arrivals so far in 2024 has exceeded 1.9 million, the total annual arrivals stood at 1,878,543 at the end of 2023 - indicating a 3.2 percent increase in annual arrivals for the current year.
