MoU signed to conduct degree program

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between an Australian university, the University of Western Sydney (UWS) and the Institute for Security and Law Enforcement Studies of Maldives Police Service, to begin an undergraduate degree program aimed at people working in the fields of security and law enforcement.

In a function held in Iskandar Koshi this morning, the MoU was signed on behalf of the Maldives Police Service by Commissioner Abdulla Riyaz and by the Director of Education Partnership and Dean of University of Western Sydney Dr. Carrie Hudson on behalf of the university.

Speaking to the press after signing the understanding, Commissioner Riyaz said that University of Western Sydney will provide great assistance to the new degree program.

“The students will be able to access the University of Western Sydney Research E-Library facilities. They will also share their research with us. Their lecturers and researchers will be teaching the course on most part,” said Riyaz.

He also said that the course, which is accredited and certified by the UWC, has been specially tailored to suite the Maldives and that the participants will be awarded graduate certificates from the university upon completion of the course. He said that the course is open for participation for all those who are involved in the field of law enforcement.

Dr. Carrie Hudson noted that the understanding singed to today will benefit both parties in the future, and that the university is pleased to extend their support through such a program.

Maldives Police Service has said that a total of 50 students, divided into two units, can enroll in the first round of intake, and that the course will cost a fee of $2500 (MVR 38,550). The program is scheduled to start 24th of March this year.
